Our first widespread snowstorm possible on Tuesday
Our first widespread snowstorm possible on Tuesday
Over the past few days, I have been paying significant attention to Tuesday. For a while now, various models, but especially the GFS, have shown a low pressure system moving up the northeast coast Monday into late Tuesday. The models were originally uncertain if this system would even contain wintry precipitation, but now that we are closer, it is becoming more accurate and it is showing a snowfall event on the northern side of the low pressure center.
I will not give specific snowfall totals just yet, however it looks like the highest amounts will be in central and northeastern Pennsylvania.
7AM Tuesday simulated radar - The low pressure center, over North Carolina, is moving to the northeast.
Rain is falling in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and far southeastern Pennsylvania.
A mix or freezing rain event will occur around this time in the mountainous regions of Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia.
Snow will begin to fall across most of the state, with the heaviest snow likely being in southwestern Pennsylvania.
1PM Tuesday simulated radar - Rain is now falling across various parts of the state, especially in south central and southeastern Pennsylvania.
A mix or freezing rain event is possible around the northern side of New York City although I am not seeing this happening personally.
Snow continues to fall in western Pennsylvania; heaviest snow is in northeastern Pennsylvania.
7PM Tuesday simulated radar - Much of the precipitation is out of our area. Any precipitation here on out will fall in either eastern Pennsylvania from the low pressure center, or some very minor lake effect snow in northwestern Pennsylvania.
This snow may cause business delays and closures on Tuesday. The most likely location to see a business or school delay and closure is the eastern portion of the state.
